PESHAWAR: The business activities continued at the major trading centres and shopping markets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa throughout the day, despite the strike call given by traders community against withholding tax on banking transactions.
In Peshawar great hustle bustle of the people was seen in major markets including historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Shoba Bazaar, Banamari, Ramdas, Ashraf Road, Misgaran Bazaar, Sarwar Plaza,
Firdus Market, G.T.Road, Hashtnagri, Deans Trade Centre, Jans Trading Centre, University Road, Hayatabad and Kahrkhano Market.
The main cause of failure of the strike call was division between the traders associations in the province as majority of the traders were against the strike and wanted settlement of the problem with the government through table talks instead of confrontation.
Haji Muhammad Afzal a leader of Anjumn e Tajraan Peshawar City had announced disassociation from the strike call, saying there was no justification for going against withholding tax as the matter could be settled with the government through negotiation.
Similar reports were received from district headquarters of the province where the traders turned a deaf ear to the strike call and opened their business activities as usual.
