LAHORE: The business community of the provincial capital, criticising the government over prolonged power outages, said that the unscheduled loadshedding in industrial areas is badly dampening economic activity.

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Ijaz A Mumtaz, in a statement, said that the continuous power outages were going to hurt not just the business community but also the wage earners as most industrial units had reduced their working hours.

He said that the government should share its energy plan with the LCCI. “How would the government establish its writ when the industrial wheel is coming to a grinding halt?”, Mumtaz questioned.

“Unemployment, price-hikes, industrial closures deepen prob¬¬lems of lawlessness. The government, therefore, needs to reset its priorities as far as power supply management is concerned”.
