ISLAMABAD: The local business community has called to issue instructions for urgent repair of Islamabad Dry Port main double road as its current dilapidated condition was a major hurdle in promoting export and import in the region.

They stressed that Islamabad, Mayor, Sheikh Ansar Aziz should take notice of the poor quality of Islamabad Dry Port road as it was creating lot of dust pollution in I-9 and I-10 Industrial Areas, said in statement issued by ICCI here on Saturday. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President, Sheikh Pervez Ahmed Senior Vice President and Sheikh Abdul Waheed Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that Islamabad Dry Port was playing an important role in promoting export/import activities in this region and it needed to be developed at par with international standards.

They said that dry port road has not been properly carpeted as yet due to which it was spreading lot of dust pollution in I-9 and I-10 areas creating health hazards for the industrialists, road users and the residents of its surrounding areas. They said almost daily heavy duty vehicles and big containers were plying on this road to pick/drop commercial consignments from/at Islamabad Dry Port.

However, on account of its sub-standard repair work, the vehicles plying on this road were sending off clouds of dust in the air due to which pedestrians, motorcyclists and people living in the vicinity of this road were inhaling dust, which was dangerous for their health.

They emphasized that Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation and CDA should pay immediate attention to this important road and arrange its urgent carpeting to save the people from dust pollution and to facilitate the smooth promotion of business activities.
