KARACHI: A delegation of local exporters, importers and customs agents headed by president, Frontier Customs Agents Group, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi called on Deputy Collector, Customs Dry Port, Zakir Mohammad here in his office.
The delegation congratulated, Zakir Mohammad for assuming charge as Deputy Collector, Dry Port and expressed the hope that their problems will be solved on priority basis.
On this occasion, they also highlighted the problems of exporters and importers in the context of dry port and presented proposals for their resolution. Briefing the Deputy Collector, Customs Dry Port, Zakir Mohammad, president, Frontier Customs Agents Group, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi complained that about 385 re-conditioned vehicles parked in the dry port for a period of over two years is creating hurdle in the work of importers and exporters.
Furthermore, he said that due to the lack of interest of Pakistan Railways, the exporters of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are transporting their export-bound goods through private trucks to Karachi and then after filing of GD export it to different countries. Such kind of situation, he said has declined the utility of the dry port and had rendered a large number of exporters and clearing agents of the province unemployed.
The Deputy Collector, Customs, Dry Port, Zakir Mohammad appreciated the delegation for highlighting the problems of business community and proposals for the promotion of exports from the province. He further assured the delegation that the problems of customs agents, exporters and importers will be resolved through mutual consultations.
