WASHINGTON: The state is awarding $23.6 million to deploy 43 zero-emission trucks servicing major ports throughout the Golden State, including the Port of West Sacramento. Officials of the state’s Air Resources Board said the truck development and demonstration project will decrease greenhouse gases, petroleum usage and toxic pollution.
The funds come from the California Climate Investments program, which uses proceeds from the state’s cap-and-trade auctions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The trucks are expected to be in operation before the end of the year. The demonstration project runs through April 2019, but the state hopes that it will prompt further development of zero-emission vehicles and technologies.
