PHNOM PENH: The head of a police military task force said his team had arrested a man suspected of buying drugs for sale. The suspect was carrying 812.3 grams of methamphetamine, he said.
Lieutenant General Eng Vanndy said the suspect was a man named Va Thia, 44, a farmer living in Siem Pang district, Steung Treng province. He was arrested on Saturday at around 10:30 am at the Cambodian-Laos border crossing of Trapang Kriel in Thalabarivath district, Steung Treng province.
According to Gen. Vanndy, prior to the arrest, he had led his task force in a months-long investigation before identifying the suspect. The suspect was arrested while buying the drugs from a Laotian man who evaded the police and fled back into Laos.
“We are building a file regarding this case to send it to the provincial court for further investigation according to due legal procedures,” said Gen. Vanndy.
