Cambodia rubber exports swell 47% to 61,969 tons in H1

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia exported 61,969 tons of dry rubber in the first six months of 2015, an increase of 47 percent from 42,189 tons over the same period last year, the figures of the Ministry of Commerce showed here the other day.

During the January-June period this year, the Southeast Asian country earned a gross revenue of 84.2 million U.S. dollars from the export of dry rubber, up 12 percent from 75 million U.S. dollars over the same period last year, the figures said.

A ton of the best quality rubber goes for about 1,533 U.S. dollars on the international market on Monday, down 17 percent from 1,848 U.S. dollars at this time last year.

Rubber has been sold to Malaysia, Vietnam, China, South Korea, and European countries.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by 2014, Cambodia has planted rubber trees on the area of around 357,809 hectares.
