Canada crude oil output increases by 2.6%

OTTAWA: Canada produced 18.0 million cubic metres of crude oil and equivalent products in June, up 2.6% compared with the same month in 2014.
Crude bitumen production increases
The gain in production of crude oil and equivalent products in June was led by crude bitumen, up 20.6% to 6.9 million cubic metres compared with the same month in 2014.
This increase was partially offset by declines in the production of light and medium crude oil (down 15.1% to 3.7 million cubic metres) and heavy grades of crude oil (down 8.4% to 2.0 million cubic metres). Production volumes of synthetic crude oil were relatively flat compared with June 2014, edging down 0.4% to 4.4 million cubic metres.
Exports edge down while imports increase
In June, total exports of crude oil and equivalent edged down 0.8% from the same month in 2014 to 13.6 million cubic metres. At the same time, imports of crude oil and equivalent increased 12.7% to 3.0 million cubic metres.
Quarterly changes in crude oil
For the quarter ending June 30, production of crude oil and equivalent products declined by 1.4% to 52.1 million cubic metres compared with the same quarter a year earlier.
At the same time, exports of crude oil and equivalent products increased 3.7% to 42.4 million cubic metres, while imports of crude oil and equivalent products rose 18.2% to 9.0 million cubic metres.
Marketable natural gas increases
Canadian natural gas utilities received 11.2 billion cubic metres of total marketable gas in June, up 4.3% from the same month in 2014. At the same time, exports of natural gas to the United States from Canada rose 3.0% to 6.0 billion cubic metres and imports of natural gas were sharply lower, down 21.1% to 1.2 billion cubic metres.
Quarterly changes in natural gas
For the quarter ending June 30, Canadian natural gas utilities received 34.8 billion cubic metres of total marketable gas, up 3.4% from the same quarter in 2014. During the same period, exports of natural gas to the United States from Canada increased 2.9% to 18.2 billion cubic metres and imports of natural gas fell 19.0% to 3.9 billion cubic metres.
