EDMONTON: A 66-year-old British Columbia man has been charged after police seized 17 kilograms of cocaine during an investigation west of Edmonton.
RCMP ‘K’ Division traffic members were working on Highway 16 near Stony Plain on Saturday when they stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation.
Police said their investigation indicated there may be a controlled substance present, so the Canine Unit was brought in to assist. With the help of Police Service Dog Henri, police found 17 kilograms of cocaine inside the vehicle.
RCMP said the drugs have a street value of about $1.7 million.
The driver of the vehicle, who police said is from Surrey, B.C., was charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. His name has not been released.
