KARACHI: Canada High Commissioner Wendy Gilmour has emphasised that immense trade opportunities exist between Pakistan and Canada for the exchange of merchandise and services with avenues for investment in both countries.

“Canada is keen on partnering with Pakistan’s business community and benefitting from the abundant opportunities that Pakistan offers for socio-economic growth with multifarious business prospects in a wide spectrum of industries and economic sectors,” Gilmour said during her visit to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

The meeting centered around matters pertaining to Pakistan’s economy, investment environment, capital markets and the new government. The possibility of investments by the Canadians, including the Pakistani diaspora, also came up for discussion.

Keeping Canadian investors in view, the meeting focused on access to the stock market as well as profit repayment procedures.

PSX Managing Director Richard Morin highlighted the role portfolio fund managers could play by assisting the Canadian investors in gaining access to the PSX.

He pointed out that an exchange-traded fund on Pakistan was working in the US, so Canadian investment managers could work with the PSX on making offers to investors in their country.

The ambassador reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to aiding Pakistan in its stride towards economic development and in other spheres of national importance.
