OTTAWA: Canadian government has shown agreement to cover all costs related to building of new customs office attached to a proposed border crossing south of the Ambassador Bridge with United States.
The US customs plaza wasn’t included in President Barack Obama’s 2016 spending plan released Monday.
Reports say Ottawa is working on an agreement to include the plaza in a public-private partnership already setup to build and manage the new crossing. The federal government is already footing the bill for the rest of the project, which it intends to recoup through tolls.
It’s the final hurdle preventing construction on the new crossing from starting.
