OTTAWA: Algoma Central Corporation of Canada has signed contracts with Croatian yard Uljanik to build three 225 m long Seaway Max self-unloading bulkers to the company’s Great Lakes – St Lawrence Waterway dry bulk fleet. All the ships will be fitted with scrubbers. The orders replace a three ship contracts that were cancelled with a Chinese yard, financially struggling Nantong Mingde, earlier this year.
The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in early 2018 with the balance of the ships delivered by the end of that year.
Algoma is continuing discussions with other parties on further fleet renewal opportunities, the company said in a release.
