LONDON: Through a genetic study, researchers have claimed that the Cape Parrot is its own distinct species, not a subspecies of Poicephalus robustus.
Now, efforts will be made by conservationists to give Cape Parrot, a largish bird native to the forests of South Africa, the status of a separate species.
The bird could be listed as vulnerable under the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources’ Red List of Threatened Species, said the study.
