Car dealers, owners to be fined for unregistered vehicles

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Finance, Excise and Taxation Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 fine will be imposed on the owner on bringing an unregistered vehicle on the road and action will also be taken against the dealers concerned.

Furthermore, section 144 will be imposed on car dealers who will hand over vehicles to their customers without registration, he added.

The minister said that non-changeable number plates will be issued by Excise & Taxation Department for checking theft of vehicles and duplicate number plates would be provided by the department in case of an accident or a broken number plate.

He said that number plates will not be removed or fixed to another vehicle after first fixation. 500,000 number plates would be provided by Excise & Taxation Department from June this year. Online collection of token tax, property tax and other taxes from Bank of Punjab, U-fone, Mastercard and other departments was also under consideration so that payment of taxes could be made simple and easy and citizens would be able to pay their taxes at any franchise in any part of the country, Mujtaba added.

The Minister said that introduction of uniform number plates across the province on the pattern of NADRA was also under consideration and citizens could contact excise office of their respective city for the purpose but number plates would be issued from Lahore.
