BAKU: The State Customs Committee reports that for Jan-Mar 2015 the car import fell 2.19-fold year-on-year. Thereby, the trend of 2014 when the physical import of motor vehicles collapsed by 39.3% continued. In 2013 import grew by 3.09% and exceeded 104,000 cars for the first time.
The SCC informs that over Jan-Mar 2015 the country imported 10,035 vehicles (4,090 in January, 3,421 in February and 2,524 in March), including 9,256 (3,870, 3,161 and 2,225) light cars, 500 trucks, 203 buses and 76 special-purpose vehicles. For comparison, in Jan-Mar 2014 the car import reached 22,511 vehicles, including 20,305 light cars.
Data on the cost of car import has not been brought for the last few years.
However, in Jan-Mar the total import of vehicles and spare parts amounted to $679.273 million, which was 3.65-fold higher than import in Jan-Mar 2014 ($185.657 million). The share of motor equipment import in Jan-Mar 2015 made up 27.97% of total import versus 9.16% for 2014 and 13.4% for 2013.
In case if the trend of Jan-Mar continues the import in 2015 would total only 40,140 motor vehicles, including 37,024 light cars. That will be lower than the quite moderate level of 2014 by 36.7% and 35.7% respectively.
In 2014 the country imported 63,368 vehicles, including 57,615 light cars, 5,054 trucks, 345 buses and 354 special-purpose vehicles. In March the country imported 9,349 (peak of 2014). Import of light cars reached 8,307 (March’s peak).
In 2014 the total import of vehicles and spare parts to them amounted to $841.898 million, which was by 41.3% lower than import for 2013.
In 2013 the country imported 104,385 cars, including 94,879 motor cars, 7,823 trucks, 827 buses and 856 special-purpose vehicles. At that, motor vehicle import for December totaled 10,699 cars (the best monthly index for 2013). Import of light vehicles reached 9,705 in December that was also the best monthly index for 2013.
