Car production surge 56 percent in July

ISLAMABAD: The production of jeeps and cars surged by 55.75 percent during the month of July 2017, compared to the corresponding month of the last year.

As many as 19,547 cars and jeeps were manufactured in the country during July 2017 compared to the production of 12,550 units during July 2016, official data revealed.

The production of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) also increased from 1,990 units last July to 2,309 units in July 2017, showing a growth of 16.03 percent.

Production of trucks increased from 512 units to 637 units, showing growth of 24.41 percent while the production of tractors surged by 146.11 percent from 2,067 units in last July to 5,087 units during July 2017, the data revealed.

The output of motorcycles increased by 26.46 percent during the month of July when compared to output of the same month of the last fiscal year.

As many as 208,388 motorcycles were manufactured during July 2017 compared to the production of 164,782 recorded in July 2016, according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

However, the production of buses declined by 31.30 percent by going down from the production of 115 units to 79 units.

It is pertinent to mention here that the country’s large scale manufacturing (LSM) sector witnessed growth of 12.98 percent during July 2017 as compared to the corresponding period of last year.  The Quantum Index Numbers (QIM) of large scale manufacturing industries was recorded at 133 points during July 2017 against 117.72 points during same period of last year.

The highest growth of 10.51 percent was witnessed in the indices monitored by ministry of industries followed by Provincial Bureaus of Statistics (PBOS) with 2.12 percent and the indices of Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC) with 0.35 percent.  On month-on-month basis, the industrial growth increased by 4.36 percent during July 2017 as compared to June 2017.
