LONDON: A car-sized meteor exploded over Ireland illuminating huge swathes of both Northern Ireland and the north of England.
According to rough calculations done by UK Meteor Observation Network in collaboration with other European networks the initial velocity of the meteor was very low – just 8.3 km/s. With a very steep entry angle the initial height was about 78 km while the terminal height was 31-32 km. The report further notes that if any fragments survived the final explosion, they won’t be larger than 50 grams in weight.
