CDA asked to ensure regular monitoring of filtration plants

ISLAMABAD: The residents of different sectors of federal capital have urged the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to ensure regular monitoring of water filtration plants of the city.

Gul Muhammad, a resident of G-6, said that condition of the water filtration plants in federal capital is pathetic. He said that quality of water available on these filtration plants is not being monitored.

Rafique Ahnmed, a resident of H-9, said that out of order water filtration plants have deprived the residents of the federal capital of the facility of clean drinking water.

An official of Capital Development Authority (CDA) said that teams have been constituted under the Deputy Director, Water Management for monitoring of water filtration plants. He said that out of the total 37 water filtration plants, 30 are operative in different sectors of the city, which are being regularly monitored to check the quality of water supplied to the residents.

He said that seven water filtration plants are out of order. He, however said efforts are being made to make these plants functional. Filters at these filtration plants are changed after every six months, he added.

Ajab Khan, a resident of sector I-10 said that he had to travel for a kilometre to fetch drinking water as the plant which is located near to his home is out of order. He demanded the CDA authorities to install more water filtration plants, besides making the installed ones functional.

An official of Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) Lubna Naheed, said that the council can make monitoring of the water quality of the filtration plants. She said water filtration plants should be monitored regularly for ensuring provision of clean drinking water to people.
