ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Traders Welfare Association, G-10/4, led by its President Zafar Gujjar visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry to highlight the key issues of their market and sought the support of ICCI in their urgent redress.

Addressing the delegation, Sheikh Amir Waheed, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that due to inattention of CDA, no development work was undertaken in markets for the last many years due to which the traders were facing difficulties in promoting business activities. He called upon the CDA to initiate developmental works in markets on priority to facilitate the growth of trading activities. He said that due to absence of rent law, incidents of forced evictions of traders from shops were becoming serious due to which traders were feeling insecure. He said that an amended bill of rent restriction law for Islamabad was lying pending in the National Assembly since long and urged that government should arrange its enactment before the end of its tenure to resolve this serious issue of traders once for all.

Muhammad Naveed, Senior Vice President, Nisar Mirza Vice President ICCI, Zubair Ahmed Malik Chairman Founder Group and Khalid Chaudhry also spoke at the occasion and said that in consultation with all stakeholders, an amended bill of rent control act for Islamabad was prepared that was presented long time ago in the National Assembly. They stressed that government should get the bill passed from the parliament without further delay to resolve this major issue of traders.

Zafar Gujar President, Usman Khan General Secretary, TWA G-10/4, Islamabad and Ch. Irfan Group Leader speaking at the occasion said that CDA had awarded contract to a party for construction of bridge to connect G-10/4 Market, but no work was initiated as yet due to which the people were facing problems in getting easy access to the market. They urged that CDA should ensure early completion of bridge to facilitate the customers.

They said that CDA had not done any development work in the market for the last 4 years due to which the footpaths were broken, streetlights and filtration plants were not available while the condition of sanitation was unsatisfactory. They emphasized that CDA should start development works in the market without further delay so that business activities in the market could flourish.
