CDA moves FTO against recovery of Rs 700m by Islamabad RTO

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has moved the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) against the Islamabad Regional Tax Office’s (RTO) action of recovering Rs 700 million by attaching the bank accounts.

The FTO on the application of CDA stayed the RTO to recover more Rs 680 million in wake of income tax until the decision, besides issuing the notices to the authorities concerned to attend hearing in next week.

In the application, the CDA took stance that RTO attached the bank accounts without fulfilling legalities and intimating the authorities concerned of the CDA, adding that the authority was facing financial problems at departmental level.

On the other hand, officials of RTO talking to Customs Today said that the department followed all laws to recover the taxes, adding that the CDA was issued many notices before the recovery of taxes.

They said that the authorities concerned of the CDA were contacted but they did not take the matter seriously. Now the case is before the FTO who will decide the fate of the matter.
