CDGL declares 567 buildings dilapidated

LAHORE: The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) has declared about 567 buildings in nine towns and within the jurisdiction of Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) as dilapidated.

This was exposed in a survey report conducted by the administration of nine towns of the CDGL and the WCLA on the orders of the Punjab Chief Secretary.

Lahore Division Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal summoned a meeting of the DCO and heads of other concerned departments next week to review strategy to vacate or demolish dangerous buildings with an aim to avoid any untoward incident in upcoming monsoon season. According to the statistics of the official report, 371 out of 567 total dilapidated buildings were declared dangerous for living in the CDGL towns while 196 were identified in WCLA.

Official sources told the state-owned news agency that WCLA had nine wards within its jurisdiction where total 264 units have been found unfit to live out of which 68 have been demolished by the WCLA during May and June.
