CDWP approves four projects worth Rs16b

ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved four projects worth Rs16.02 billion and recommended one other worth Rs37.91 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for consideration.

In addition, the CDWP agreed on the ‘Covid-19 Responsive and Other Natural Calamities Control Program’ worth Rs70 billion.

The CDWP meeting, chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, discussed projects related to physical planning & housing, health, education and information technology sectors.

A project related to physical planning & housing titled ‘Construction of Islamabad High Court Building at Islamabad (Revised)’ worth Rs4.98 billion was approved in the meeting. The project aims to construct Islamabad High Court on an already acquired plot measuring 220,000 sq.ft. in Sector G-5. The scope of works includes construction of courts, auditorium, car parking, road/paths, plumbing works and woodworks etc.

Meanwhile, two projects related to education sector, namely ‘Support to Basic Education Development Project AJ&K’ worth Rs5.97 billion and ‘Basic Education for All Project AJ&K’ worth Rs1.58 billion were approved by CDWP.

In the IT sector, the CDWP referred to ECNEC a project titled ‘Phase-II of Pak-China OFC for Establishment of Cross Border OFC Network (Khunjerab-Gwadar-Karachi) along CPEC Routes’ worth Rs37.91 billion. However, the second IT project, ‘Establishment of National Aerospace Science & Technology Park’ (Rs3.48 billion), was approved in the meeting.

The CDWP also approved two position papers related to industries and commerce, titled  ‘Establishment of Hub Special Economic Zone’ worth Rs2.287 billion and ‘Remodeling and Expansion of Karachi Expo Center’ worth Rs2.67 billion.

Moreover, the CDWP agreed for the ‘Covid-19 Responsive and Other Natural Calamities Control Program’ worth Rs70 billion with proposed changes. The PC-1 of this project will facilitate the national programme in improving facilities at 50:50 financial support to all provinces at district headquarters/tehsil headquarters level hospitals.

AJK and GB will also be covered under the project financing.
