COLOMBO: The Central Bank of Sri Lanka today denied media reports which said that the Central Bank has informed all the heads of state and private Banks not to exchange any Qatar Riyals until further notice. “The Central Bank of Sri Lanka categorically denies reports by various media institutions stating that “the Central Bank has informed banks not to accept Qatari Riyals’,” the Bank said in a statement.
Several media reports quoted the Duty Manager at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) airport as saying that the Central Bank had issued a notice informing not to exchange any Qatar Riyals.The reports follow the brewing crisis among the Gulf countries with the decision of several Muslim countries to sever ties with Qatar accusing the rich Gulf nation of supporting extremism in the region.
