FRANCE: With tongue placed firmly in cheek, researchers from CERN in Geneva, Switzerland have announced today that experiments with the Large Hadron Collider have discovered evidence of “The Force” as depicted in the Star Wars films.
However, don’t go tossing out your physics textbooks just yet. The new announcement does indeed come from CERN, but the date of the publication is highly suspect – April 1st. Sadly, the new “discovery” is nothing but an April Fool’s Day prank, much to the chagrin of Star Wars fanatics from around the world and throughout the galaxy.
The good-natured prank pulled off by scientists and engineers from the research facility involve a “Dr. Ben Kenobi” from Mos Eisley University on Tattooine proclaiming the new discovery, with the good doctor being quoted that the Force is “an energy field created by all living things.” The press release from CERN continues to lay it on thick, quipping about “The Dark Side” of the Standard Model of Physics being explored by a heavy-breathing researcher named Dave Vader and statements from “human cyborg relations” staff member Luke Daniels, an obvious portmanteau of the names Luke Skywalker and Anthony Daniels, with the latter being the actor who portrays C-3P0 in the Star Wars films.
