LAS VEGAS: With CES just around five days away, companies have already started making some announcements. We just saw that Lenovo has promised a cheaper 4G handset earlier next year. Samsung has also decided to announce some products before its CES keynote on January 5th.

Samsung announced the 12.2-inch Series 9 laptop (2015 edition), also called as Ativ Book 9 in some regions,  which will sport a fanless design and will be competing with the Apple MacBook Air in terms of slimness. The Series 9 laptop measures just 11.8m thick and weighs a light 950 grams.

It will be powered by an Intel Core M-5Y10C, a dual-core hyper-threaded processor, which is clocked at 800MHz of base frequency and the Turbo boost frequency going up to 2GHz. The Core M processor also houses the Intel HD 5300 graphics solution. This Windows 8.1 running laptop boasts of a battery life of 12 hours according to Samsung. It also comes with an Ultra Power Saving mode that we have seen in Samsung phones.

The Series 9 laptop will come in two variants – 8GB of RAM with a 256GB SSD storage for $1,399 (approx Rs 89,000) or 4GB of RAM with a 128GB SSD for $1,199 (approx Rs 76,000). The Series 9 laptop has already started selling in South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Stores and will be displayed at CES in Las Vegas too.

So far we have seen curved displays from Samsung only with its OLED TVs, but with the Series 7 All-In-One (AIO) it looks like Samsung wants to expand the use cases for its curved displays. The Samsung Series 7 AIO sports a 27-inch curved display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Now many may scoff at the resolution which is lower than Apple’s regular 27-inch iMacs which have been sporting 2560 x 1440 pixel displays for more than two generations now.

The Samsung Series 7 AIO houses an Intel Core i5 chipset along with 8GB of RAM. There isn’t any dedicated GPU but it relies on Intel’s internal HD graphics solution. On the storage front, you get a 1TB hard drive. There are four USB ports of which two are USB 3.0 compatible. It runs Windows 8.1.The Series 7 AIO features SideSync 3.0 which lets you receive texts and calls from your phone on the PC.

The Series 7 AIO will start selling from the first quarter of 2015 for $1,299 (approx Rs 82,500).
