ISLAMABAD: Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) Chairman Nazir Ahmed wrote a letter to Ministry of Law and Justice asking it to restore the services of recently repatriated tribunal’s Registrar, Zahid Habib at the tribunal due to his efficient working, it is learnt.
the ministry that he wanted to keep Zahid’s services owing to his efficient working at tribunal, an officer of ATIR quoted chairman.
ATIR officials said that a state of uncertainty and depression had triggered at ATIR after Ministry of Law and Justice’s recent letter which had asked tribunal’s registrar to immediately leave the charge and report at his old office Council of Islamic Ideology (CII).
The chairman had asked ministry not to repatriate Zahid Habib as the tribunal had restored its functions well since he had taken charge of office, chairman quoted.
However, the Ministry of Law and Justice repatriated Zahid who would leave charge on next official-working day and subsequently would report to the CII from where he was brought to ATIR.
In the meantime, officials of ATIR were under doubts about ministry’s measure as well as about appointment of next registrar. ATIR would fail to bring various reforms to improve its functions by implementing disciplinary check and balances at tribunal following repatriation of Zahid Habib, officials expressed.
It is pertinent to mention that Zahid Habib had been repatriated following a complaint filed at Ministry of Law and Justice by a renowned lawyer who reportedly had disputed with the registrar over some cases.
