CHANDIGARH: The crime branch of UT police on Monday arrested two men from Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district for allegedly smuggling charas.
Deputy superintendent of police (crime) Jagbir Singh said Manzoor, 33, was arrested by a patrolling team near Ziri Mandi Chowk, Sector 39, and 300 grams of the drug was seized from him. Mazid Hassan, 25, who is unemployed, was found in possession of 200 grams of charas at the Sector 43 bus stand.
A source in police claimed that the accused have confessed to bringing the contraband from Jammu and Kashmir. The source claimed that the accused allegedly used to stay at guest houses and hotels in Tricity, and supply the drugs to youngsters in Chandigarh through rickshaw-pullers also hailing from Jammu and Kashmir.
Police claimed that after selling the consignment, the accused used to purchase second-hand motorcycles and scooters, and would further sell back home. While Manzoor was remanded in three-day police custody, Mazid was sent in police custody for two days.
