LAHORE: Punjab Industries, Commerce, Investment & Skill Development Department has urged Chief Collector, Customs, Faiz Ahmad to take strict action against corrupt customs officials and remedial actions should be taken like returning confiscated goods and de-selling sealed premises.
The department stated that Lahore Chamber of Commerce &Industry (LCCI) is a premium chamber of Pakistan having more than 28000 members belonging to trade and industry.
LCCI has forwarded complaints of its members vide letter no: PS(P)/LCC/2020, dated 10.09.2020, wherein it has been claimed that some customs officials have dealt the business community with high handedness through uncalled for raids on warehouses and confiscation of goods, the department said.
Post Covid-19 lockdown, the economy is already reeling under pressure and such actions by few customs officials are leading to further deterioration of business environment in the province, it was further said.
Such episodes go against the spirit of creating Ease of Doing Business envisaged by the prime minister, the department explained, adding that strict action be taken forthwith against officials and remedial actions should be taken like returning
confiscated goods and de-selling sealed premises.
