Chile imports 921,600 mt of coal in Dec

WASHINGTON: Chile imported 921,600 mt of coal in December, up 48.7% from 619,771 mt of coal imported in the same month of 2014, according to data released by the energy ministry.

Imports rose 21.9% compared with 780,300 mt in the previous month of November, the ministry said. Chile imported 336,800 mt of coal from the US, 296,800 mt from Australia and 288,000 mt of coal from Colombia in December, the data show.

Imports in 2015 totaled 9.873 million mt, down 3.1% from 10.19 million mt in 2014. Chile’s main coal suppliers during the period were Colombia (41.6%), the US (33.4%) and Australia (20.7%), the ministry said.
