KARACHI – For setting up coal-fired power projects of 700 MW at Port Qasim at a cost of $1 billion, K-Electric has signed an accord with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), one of the biggest engineering and construction company in China, to overcome growing demand of electricity here, the K-Electric spokesperson said.

The CMEC has specialisation in construction of power projects in generation, transmission and distribution, the spokesperson said. On-board this Joint Development Agreement (JDA) is China Datang Overseas Investment Company (CDTO), which will also help in this joint project, where coal-fired power projects of 700 MW would be set up, thus boosting KE’s generation capacity.
