China inks MoU with WADA to stop illegal raw material import, export

BEIJING: China has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the World Anti-Doping Agency in tackling illegal import and export of raw materials for performance enhancing drugs.

Liu Peng, head of the State General Administration of Sports of China, inked the MOU after a meeting with WADA director general David Howman on Friday afternoon.

According to the MOU, 10 government departments related to sports, the custom, food and drugs control and public security are expected to join force in cracking down on illegal the manufacturing, distribution, import and export of raw materials which may be used to produce performance enhancing drugs.

“Today we had an understanding of what each department does. We drafted a project plan which we will work together,” said Howman on Friday.

The MOU is just the beginning of the cooperation and more details will be worked out in the future.

“It is a bit early to say what those specifics will be but everybody in the room today agreed that we should move together. I think it is a very important day we have developed partnership and developed an understanding of each other’s position. so we can do that equally,” said Howman.
