BEIJING: Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang pledged to deepen economic ties aimed at boosting trade and investment with Colombia as part of his four-nation South America. The two signed deals for a scholarship program and a development plan for the port of Buenaventura.
After a meeting with President Juan Manuel Santos, Li told media outlets that China will pledge $8 million aimed at war-torn rural areas if a deal is reached with leftist rebel group, FARC. Both countries are considering preliminary talks aimed at a free trade agreement.
China has quickly become Colombia’s second largest trading partner after the United States. As China imports grow, companies from both countries are looking at ways to further cooperation and trade.
