China’s Kunming Customs seized 8 trucks of illicit frozen products

BEIJING: The anti-smuggling Customs officers of Xishuangbanna Customs House (affiliated to Kunming Customs District) seized 8 trucks of smuggled frozen products (including frozen chicken feet, chicken wings and ox tripe) with a total weight of 208 tons in Jinghong City in Yunnan Province a few days ago.

There was a strong demand for frozen meat in the country during the Spring Festival holidays. Seeing this, the smugglers “dig” a channel along the border frontline of Xishuangbanna prefecture in Yunnan Province where there is no Customs presence and try to smuggle in piecemeal the frozen products. To stop such smuggling activities and ensure food safety, starting from January 1, 2015, officers of Xishuangbanna Customs House have taken part into a special operation to crack down on frozen products smuggling and other smuggling activities done in places where there are no customs presence.
