ISLAMABAD: M/s Shouguang Tayeb Wood Industry, a Chinese company, has requested the Director General Custom valuation to remove discriminatory import customs duty on MDF melamine and veneer door skins. The valuation was imposed through Valuation Ruling No. 925/2016.

In a letter, M/s Shouguang Tayeb Wood Industry pleaded that during fixing the new import tariff, the DG Valuation did not follow the regular procedure and neither asked the company for the price. China and Pakistan are enjoying good relations and this action is making the products in the market uncompetitive.

M/s Shouguang Tayeb Wood Industry wrote that 99 percent of MDF melamine and veneer door skin imported by Pakistan is from China and the company’s share in the export of this product is more than 80 percent.

The Customs authorities have increased the import tariff price to $0.75/kg approximately, $3.90 per sheet; and $1/kg approximately, $5.20 per sheet for the products. In the same valuation ruling, the Customs fixed C&F value of $0.55 /kg for molded fiber door skins which is expensive than the company’s products. The company requested that their products should be valued at its actual price which is $0.50 /kg approximately.
