KARACHI: A Chinese company has been given a $239 million contract to build a jetty on Port Qasim to unload coal.
According to the official documents, the Port Qasim Electric Power Company gave the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Sinohydro Harbour Company after a complete competitive bidding process and.
The Port Qasim Electric Power Company informed the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) about the price of the EPC of coal-unloading jetty and channel for its 1,320 megawatts coal-fired plants (660MW each). The company also confirmed $1.88 million consulting (supervision) fees under the contract.
As per the contract, Sinohydro Harbour Company will construct the coal unloading jetty, approach bridge, revetment and associated auxiliary facilities, approach channel works and conveying system. The $1.9 billion Port Qasim coal-fired project is the first large-scale energy project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
