LAHORE: Clerics have lauded the latest amendment to the Punjab Sales Tax Act, exempting the visitors of holy places from tax.
As per details, the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) had earlier given exemptions to travel agents on the services of Hajj and Umrah. Now, according to the latest amendment to the Punjab Sales Tax on Services Act 2012, travel agents could enjoy immunity in sales tax on the provisions of services to the visitors of holy places in Iran, Iraq, etc. The PRA has taken this decision by keeping in view the limited resources of the public against the growing expenses of traveling. The purpose of exemption is to lessen the burden of taxes on the travelers of Hajj, Umrah and holy places.
Talking to Customs Today, Allama Haider Mosvi said that it was a good step taken by the government to reduce the travel expenses for the pilgrims of the holy places. He added that reduction in travel expenses could provide opportunities to more Muslims to visit the historical and holy places and shrines.
