NEW YORK: Officially, the Galaxy S5 is currently upgradable to Android 5.0 Lollipop. However, those who wish to be more adventurous can opt for a custom ROM.
CLINCH Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM is currently available for the Samsung Galaxy S5. The firmware is based on Android Open Source Project and it brings in performance tweaks, more customization options and other improvements.
Since it is an unofficial firmware, Samsung Galaxy S5 users are expected to install CLINCH ROM with extra caution. A detailed guide on how to properly install Android 5.0 Lollipop update on the 2014 flagship Smartphone via a custom ROM is provided on this IB Times post.
But below are some prerequisites to meet first before actually proceeding with the installation:
Check the phone’s model number. The CLINCH ROM is only compatible with Samsung Galaxy S5 bearing the model number SM-G900F. To do so, go to Settings > About Phone > Model Number.
The battery level of the Smartphone needs to be 80 percent or more before flashing the ROM. This is to avoid power interruption issues midway during installation as it can potentially damage the device.
The USB drivers for the S5 should already be installed on the PC so the Android device can easily connect to the computer for the update process.
Enable the USB Debugging Mode on the Smartphone by going to Settings > Developer Options.
Make sure to make a backup of the important files using custom recovery tools such as ClockWorkMod or TWRP.
