KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I has issued Order-in-Original (ONO) against two importers, M/s Hilal Foods as well as Fawad and Company, for trying to evade anti-dumping duty in import of Serbitol Solution.
The Customs Appraisement West, during the scrutiny of the imported consignments of Serbitol Solution, found that the importers tried to evade 16.97 percent anti-dumping duty by using wrong PCT Heading i.e.3824.6000.
Subsequently, the authorities made contravention reports, alleging that the importers tried to evade Rs 0.8 million in terms of anti-dumping duty. The the Appraisement West pleaded the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I to conduct further legal proceedings into the case.
Later, the assistant collector Adjudication-I issued show-cause notices to both the importers and sought their viewpoints in the case. After thorough study of the case, the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I found that the importers were intentionally involved in evading the duty/taxes and tried to damage the national exchequer. Therefore, the office of the assistant collector of Customs Adjudication-I directed the importers to deposit the differential amount of duty/taxes into the national exchequer and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the each importer.
