Collector Adjudication issues show cause notice to owner of non-duty-paid goods

LAHORE: Deputy Collector of Customs Adjudication Mohammad Hassan Farid has issued a show cause notice to the owner of the non duty paid goods.

According to the details, that Superintendent Anti Smuggling Organization received information that a non duty paid Toyota Crown car bearing registration number IDP-2878 (Islamabad) is plying in Lahore. On the same day, in pursuance of the above information. Customs staff of ASO intercepted the said vehicle at Main Boueward, Gulberg. The person available on the driving seat claimed ownership of the vehicle and stated his name and address as Muhammad Ahmed Imran son of Imran Rafiq resident of Raza Block Allama Iqbal Town.

The ASO team asked him to produce the legal documents regarding possession of the vehicle, he only showed photocopy of registration book of the said vehicle and requested to allow time for submission of valid proof showing paid the duty and taxes livable on the vehicle. The particulars available on the said registration book were cross-checked with the computerized record of the Motor Registering Authority, Islamabad for registration number MS111-009379 of 1980 model. The aforesaid vehicle by physical attributes i.e. body shape and allied components etc, appeared of 1993 model whereas registration book and MRA data of the same indicated year of manufacture of 1980.

Therefore, Customs ASO impounded the above said vehicle and forwarded the cause to Customs Adjudication department for further proceedings. Now Deputy Collector Mohammad Hassan Farid has issued a show cause notice to the owner of the vehicle asking him to appear in person on Air Freight Unit of Allama Iqbal Inernational Airport to explain his point of view on 21.8.2017.
