Collector Adjudication summons owner of non duty paid vehicle

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Customs House, Nabha Road, has summoned party in illegally imported car Mark X seizure.

It has been reported by the Assistant Director, Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR, Range Office, Gujranwala received credible information about some non duty paid vehicles which plying of roads without legal documents.

The staff of Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR, intercepted a Toyota Mark-X displaying registration plate number ACE-166-ICT near Mandiala Morr, G.T. Road, Gujranwala.

The occupant of the vehicle identified himself as Zahid Mehmood son of Bashir Ahmad. On demand, he could not produce any documentary evidence regarding legal import or lawful possession in respect of the recovered vehicle. Therefore, the said vehicle was detained under Section 2kk of the Customs Act, 1969 read with Section 17 ibid and SRO 486(D)/2007 dated 09.06.2007 for further verification of its legal status/import into the country/lab test of its chassis number etc.

During the course of investigation, Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR, Gujranwala requested the Excise and Taxation Officer, Motor Registration Authority, Islamabad to supply the documents of the vehicle on the basis of which the same was registered against number ACE.166-ICT. The reply from the Excise and Taxation Officer, Motor Registration Authority, Islamabad is still awaited.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation team forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further legal proceedings.

Now the Adjudication authorities asked the respondents in the case to submit written reply to the show cause notice. In case of non-response to the show cause notice and failure to avail the opportunity of hearing, the matter shall be decided on the basis of evidence and material available on record.
