Collector Ahmed Mujtaba Memon orders confiscation of smuggled vehicle

KARACHI: Customs Adjudication-II Collector Ahmed Mujtaba Memon has issued Order-in-Original (ONO) against an unknown importer in which he ordered to confiscate Toyota Lexus worth Rs 2.53 million.

According to details, the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC-Preventive through a seizure report stated that an unknown importer was involved in smuggling of Toyota Lexus Car Model 1991 into Karachi and tried to evade duty and taxes.

Later, the collectorate served show-cause notice to unknown importer, which was no avail.

Subsequently, the collector conducted hearings into the case, which was attended by the departmental representatives of the ASO.

On the absence of the importer on all hearings, the collector gave ex parte decision and ordered the authorities concerned to confiscate the smuggled vehicle and auction it.

In the ONO, the Customs Adjudication-II collector said that the importer violated the Section 2(s), 16, 156(2) and 178 of the Customs Act 1969.
