Collector Ambreen Tarar issues  show cause notice to owner of smuggled goods

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Collector Ambreen Tarar has issued a show cause notice to the owner of non duty paid goods.

According to the details, it was reported in the contravention report that M/s Umar and Company (NTN 2485646) imported 53 consignments of potatoes during the above mentioned period. The importer had deliberately claimed the benefit of SRO 549/(I)/2008. It was also mentioned in the contravention report that the importer was not entitled for exemption of sales tax. Thus the importer with the connivance of clearing agent deliberately deprived the government of its legitimate revenue of Rs9,687,338/- (on account of sales tax Rs8,234,237/-) and on account of its additional sales tax Rs1,453,101/-.

The Collector Adjudication said that on the basis of the above mentioned facts, M/s Umar and Company Australia Building Opposite Dream Hotel, Mcleod Road, Lahore (importer) and M/s. J.T.A. Cargo Services 99-Ausralia Building Lahore (clearing agent) are charged with the contravention of the provisions of section 32 (3A) of the Customs Act, 1969. The Collector Ambreen Tarar directed the management and their representative to appear in person on 25.8.2017 at 11 a.m. in the office alongwith relevant evidence failing which ex-parte proceedings will take place.
