Collector Appraisement-West Saleem: No room for corrupt, inefficient officials in Customs Dept

KARACHI: Collector Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement-West Muhammad Saleem has made it clear that there is no room for corrupt and inefficient officials in the department. While talking to Customs Today at his office The Collector said that the Collectorate has arranged Departmental Audit Committee’s meetings on regular basis on call of the FBR authorities about the leaking revenue in proceedings of the audit paras.

“We have already recovered millions of rupees through departmental proceedings on audit paras and several demand notices have been issued against the defaulters,” the collector added. Saleem said that the main objective in convening the DAC meetings on regular bases is to rectify the mistakes being made in clearance of consignments and ensuring that those kinds of mistakes would not be repeated in future.

“I have issued clear directives to all officials that they will have to deliver, otherwise department is going to take strict actions on malpractice and use of unfair means”, Collected asserted. Hefurther informed that the Collectorate has already established a seminar hall in which the high officers of Collectorate are giving presentations to the subordinates and other officials in order to teach them different aspects of contemporary changes in Customs Manuel.

Collector added that every individual at departmental level should puts his efforts in achieving the revenue targets and the officials of Collectorate with their united efforts have made it possible by surpassing the revenue targets set by the FBR for first and second quarters of the Fiscal Year2014-15.

The Collector further claimed that the Collectorate is ready to resolve the issues of trade and to facilitate it while remaining in the legal ambit. He further disclosed that the departmental action has already been taken against the officials whose complaints have been received in the Collector office and the same practice would be continued in the future for facilitating the trade.
