ISLAMABAD: Collector Dr Arslan Subactageen has attended a ceremony held in the honor of two customs employees and presented awards to them. Both the employees had seized gold worth Rs 3.2 million at Benazir Bhatto International Airport on December 14, 2016. The collector also announced three salaries reward for Hawaldar Shaukat Ali.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Dr Subactageen has announced three salaries reward to Hawaldar Chaudhry Shaukat Ali who intercepted the gold smuggler at the airport while Deputy Collector Naghma-e-Teheniat was also presented on the occasion.
The sources said that collector also presented award to the on duty Superintendent Airport Arshad Javed Jatana who was present there when the smuggler was intercepted by the Hawaldar Shaukat.
Sources said that both customs employees intercepted a passenger Liaquat Ali who had arrived from Muscat via PIA flight No PK-292, adding that the passenger was carrying gold concealed in the inner pockets of his jacket. Sources said that total quantity of gold was 727 grams (63 tolas). Its approximate value was Rs 3.2 million.
The sources said that case is under investigation while an FIR has been lodged against the smuggler. The ceremony was attended by senior and junior staff of the customs Collectorate. The participants of the ceremony also appreciated both the staff members for foiling the gold smuggling attempt.
