Collector Arslan visits Islamabad airport to review anti-smuggling activities

ISLAMABAD: Model Customs Collectorate Collector Dr. Arslan visited Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad to check measurements being taken to curb currency and gold smuggling.

The collector visited all areas of BBIA and inquired the deputed customs staff about their working. He also met with Airport Security Force (ASF) officials, as both departments will work jointly to thwart the smuggling attempts.

Collector Arslan directed the customs officials to put special focus on Dubai-bound flights because credible information has been received that currency and gold would be smuggled abroad through airlines.

He also visited Rawal Lounge International Departure Side and met with vigilance staff, besides checking the working of scanners and body search area. The collector also directed the staff to enhance vigilance in all areas, including international departure hall, cafeteria to detect any suspicious activity being carried out.

During visit, it was briefed to the collector that body search of members of other agencies may be undertaken on random basis, food trolleys and stocks of shops located in departure area may also be examined to create deterrence against any probable attempt of smuggling.

Dr. Arslan was also briefed that inspection of engineering and catering services entering through gammon gate, especially at the time of sensitive flights may be undertaken as previously ordered.

Random examination of luggage passing through ASF scanners located at exit points on departure side may also be undertaken. The customs vigilance wing to ensure continues announcement by Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for creating awareness regarding preventive rules related to taking in and out of currency.
