Collector Dr. Sadiqullah Khan’s Hyderabad Customs foils bid to smuggle contraband goods worth Rs36m

HYDERABAD: Collectorate of Customs Hyderabad has foiled a bid to smuggle contraband good by notorious smugglers and miscreants worth Rs36 million.

Sources said that credible information was received by Collector Sadiqullah Khan that notorious smuggler Syed Israr Ahmed alias Laali khan had trying to transport cutch and Indian Gutka through 10 wheeler truck via Quetta to Mirpurkhas.

In persuasion of that information, a team was formed under the supervision of Additional Collector Asim Rehman, Assistant Collector Irfan Ali Mangi and Inspector Hashim Ali and Sooraj Mal with their staff.

The teams reached at Goth Lal Deen near Belaro District Mirpurkhass, which was surrounded by sugar cane fields from all sides, wherein the goods were being un-loaded from the truck.

Seeing the vehicles in the dark night from a distance coming towards them, the labours and persons available there escaped away from the spot. The teams reached on the spot and found half loaded truck.

The other goods were un-loaded from the truck and placed in nearby Godown. The staff started to load the goods lying in Godown on the truck. In the meantime 10 to 20 un-identified persons reached on the spot and tried to snatch the goods and vehicle forcibly by showing weapons and shouting on the staff.

In response the ASO teams opened fire and burst the tyres of vehicle, so that the vehicle could not move away. Seeing the situation the persons escaped away from the spot hurriedly.

Thorough search was carried out and recovered 205 bags of Cutch Slab (Katha) and 100 bags of Indian origin Gutka were recovered. The market value of recovered goods is more than Rs36 million which has been seized along with vehicle used in transportation of contraband goods.
