ISLAMABAD: The Collector MCC Islamabad held a meeting with the formation staff and officers to increase the revenue and anti-smuggling activity to meet the assigned revenue targets for the month of February FY17-18.

According to details given by Muhammad Ashfaque, Additional Collector, Model Customs Islamabad, that today’s meeting was organized to develop a strategy and streamline the issues faced by the formation staff. He quoted that “under the direction of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) the MCC has taken a firm decision to cope with the smuggling activities with the help of the Islamabad Police”.
Additional Collector explained that the IHC inquired from the Islamabad Territory Police (ITP) that what the ITP is doing against smuggling of Non-Duty-Paid vehicles and smuggled goods. Replying to a query of the honorable court, the ITP told the IHC that it is the customs jurisdiction, not Islamabad Police’s, to cope with the smuggling activities.
Ashfaque told CT that in today meeting the collector ordered its anti-smuggling squads to launch every possible crackdown on smugglers who are smuggling goods from Azad Jammu Kashmir or other parts of the country. He was notified that the MCC Islamabad is developing a liaison with the police as well as other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA) for cracking down on the NDP vehicles and items.
He appreciated the revenue performance which is going very well throughout the first seven months of FY17-18. He is optimistic about not only meeting the allocated revenue target but will also be surpassing it for the month of February FY17-18.
