KARACHI: Customs Adjudication-II Collector Chaudhary Muhammad Javaid has issued a show-cause notice to M/s Packages (Private) Ltd for allegedly evading duty/taxes to the tune of Rs 17.826 million on import of plain polyester films.
The notice states that Post Clearance Audit (PCA) during the audit of import clearances made under different concessionary SROs, it found that M/s Packages imported six consignments consisting of plain polyester film 12 micron outside corona. The company mis-declared the goods under PCT Heading 3920.6310 in order to avail benefits of SRO 659(I)/2007 dated August 30, 2007 whereas the goods are correctly classifiable under PCT Heading 3920.6200 on which concessionary rate of duty/taxes is not available under SRO659(I)/2007, the notice alleged.
Keeping in view the facts, it was found that M/s Packages Ltd by mis-declaring the classification and availing inadmissible exemption/concession under SRO 659(I)/2007 evaded/short paid Rs 17,826,766, the notice said.
Accordingly, the adjudication summoned M/s Packages with their clearing agent namely as M/s Ijaz and Sons to show cause regarding the evasion of duty/taxes. The collector has fixed October 28, 2016 as the date for hearing. The importer and clearing agent may submit their written replies, if any.
