Collector Saleem calls for scrutinising clearance data under SRO 655

KARACHI: The Collector, Model Customs Collectorate-MCC of Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem has directed the authorities concerned of Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB/R&D) to scrutinise clearance data under SRO 655, it is learnt here.

According to details, the Collector-MCC Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem has received information that massive evasion of duty/taxes have been continued in clearance of machinery related items under SRO 655.

Reacting upon the said information, the Collector Muhammad Saleem has asked the authorities concerned of AIB/R&D to initiate scrutiny of imported items under SRO 655.

It is pertinent to mention here that the SRO 655 allows the industrialists to import huge quantity of raw material pertaining to machinery as per the allotted quota prescribed by Engineering Development Board (EDB).

The sources informed Customs Today that the MCC-Appraisement Car Group (Group-VII) has recently detected a case in which the importer by taking undue benefit of SRO 655 was tried to import furnished equipment of motorcycle under the allotted quota which was given by Engineering Development Board (EDB) on import of raw material of machinery products for the industrialists.

The authorities concerned of Car Group (Group-VII) after detecting the anomaly in the said consignment has presented the case before the Collector-MCC Appraisement (West).

After thorough study, the Collector Muhammad Saleem has directed the importer to pay differential amount in share of duty/taxes in the national kitty.

Furthermore, the Collector MCC-Appraisement (West) has asked the authorities concerned of AIB/R&D to scrutinize the pervious clearance data of import under SRO 655 and issue demand notice of short revenue for recovery in case of any shortfall of revenue reported by any importer under the said SRO 655.
