Collector Customs Gul Rahman was talking to Customs officials at his office on Wednesday regarding the emerging issues of increase in RD and consignment clearing procedures which culminated in low collection of Customs Duties and Sales Tax.

The Pakistan Afghanistan Trade and Transit Route has a great potential to earn billions’ rupees revenue for customs exchequer and it might be the gateway to the union of trade among Afghanistan, Iran and India.

The collector customs took serious note of the ban of Afghanistan government on trucks via Torkham and said Pakistan allows the export cargo of Afghanistan to India via Pakistan but Afghanistan feels rude to give passage to exporters of Pakistan through Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan’s exports through Pakistan has increased during recent years which is a big heart of Pakistan which was always ready to encourage trade of Afghanistan in order to break the shades of war and terror.

Further strengthening the trade ties among Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran will lead them to share trade territories.

The collector has directed the customs high-ups to follow zero tolerance policy in dealing smugglers who not only bring defamation but also cause loss of revenue.

The collector customs, at another point, said that increase in taxes on cigarettes has increased the smuggling of NDP cigarettes which, in return, is making ghost revenue through smuggling. The collector customs strictly ordered the authorities to take up the matters which have been repeatedly happening.
